Contact Lens Fits And Assessments
Contact lenses are medical devices which, like drugs, provide benefits while posing certain risks. Many people wear contact lenses to correct their vision. The reasons for choosing contacts over glasses or refractive eye surgery (which corrects the shape of the cornea) include visual comfort, lifestyle, sports and appearance. With all of the convenient and healthy options available today almost anybody can wear contact lenses, including bifocal and progressive eyeglass wearers as well as those with astigmatism.
Contact lenses that are not fit properly can cause physiological damage to the eye which is permanent in some cases which is why we have our patients do an initial consultation to determine the best material and type of contact lenses for them. When you choose to wear the contacts, how frequently and how long in a day you use them can all influence the type of lens best suited for you. During the consultation, various measurements are taken to help ensure a proper fit.
Once we have determined the right contact lenses, our friendly and patient staff will then work with you to make sure you know how to insert and remove the contact lenses safely. They will also review how to clean and care for the contact lenses before you go home with your own set of trial lens to use at home. A follow up appointment is scheduled after you have had a chance to try the lenses. Sometimes more than one follow-up is required depending on the type of contacts, such as bifocal or astigmatism lenses. At the follow-up, the comfort, fit and vision with the contact lenses will be assessed to be sure the best lens has been chosen for you before you make a purchase. At times, additional trial lenses may be given so a patient can compare lenses before making a final decision.
In order to use contact lenses safely, please ask our staff to set up the appropriate appointments for you.
